We shape our tools, and thereafter our tools shape us. Developers who are limited by the scope of their tools might miss a breakthrough idea. Users who don’t have the technology available to manage assets on their OS might choose to support a different cryptocurrency instead. These are situations which we would really like for Cardano to avoid.
A few months ago, we started to work on a wallet that would prevent these situations. After all, enabling people to do the most fascinating things possible is at the bottom of nearly all of decisions at Serokell. Today, we are proud to introduce the result of our work — Ariadne, the first independent open source Ada wallet.
Originally we intended Ariadne to solve the problem of non-existence of a Linux Ada wallet. Midway through the initial development, IOHK released their Linux beta of Daedalus, and even though we applaud their choice to support Linux, it meant that we had to revise our reasons for developing Ariadne. In the end, we realized that Ariadne should and will be much more than just a Linux wallet.
At its heart, Ariadne is a wallet built for developers, by developers. We believe that the only way blockchain technologies can succeed is by enabling open-source contribution. This means giving outside contributors the same quality of tools that internal developers have. But that doesn’t prohibit us from sharing our artisan spirit with others, everyday users who are more interested in managing their cryptocurrency efficiently, flawlessly and with speed.
For this reason, we developed both a TUI version with a powerful command language inspired by our work on auxx at Cardano SL, and a more user friendly GUI version (which we plan to release a little later) which will have the same features and more!
You can download Ariadne alpha on our website, https://ariadne.app, where it is currently available as a TUI application for both Linux and MacOS users (GUI version and Windows support will follow later). We urge everybody to try it out while keeping in mind that it’s still a work in progress. We also have created a demo on Ariadne’s interface and current functionality, which you can watch here. We sincerely hope you will enjoy the wallet, and if you have a question or want to report a bug, you are welcome to send us a message to firstname.lastname@example.org. Your feedback is much appreciated!
